Tropical Depression 05W has slightly intensified as it maintains its westerly track...threatens Palau with Tropical Storm Force Winds. 05W is likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday afternoon.


Residents and visitors along Western Micronesia including the Republic of Palau and the Philippines should closely monitor the development of TD 05W (Unnamed).

About: 1,265 km southeast of Koror, Palau...or 2,095 km east-southeast of Southern Mindanao, Philippines
Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 55 kph near the center...Gustiness: 75 kph
24 hr. Rain Accumulation (near and north of center): 2 to 60 mm [Slight to Heavy]
Past Movement: West at 17 kph
Forecast Movement: West-Northwest at 17 kph
Towards: Republic of Palau


2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

05W is expected to turn west-northwest within the next 12 hours and maintain this track through 48 hours. On the forecast track, the core of TD 05W will remain over the open waters of the West Pacific Ocean through Saturday morning as it nears the Republic of Palau.

05W is expected to slowly intensify throughout the forecast period...and could become a Tropical Storm (TS) by later today. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 1-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 95 kph by early Sunday morning.

SATURDAY EARLY MORNING: Intensifies into a TS while moving WNW across the Western Pacific Ocean...about 840 km SE of Koror, Palau [2AM APR 05: 3.9N 141.3E @ 75kph].
SUNDAY EARLY MORNING: Continues to intensify while over the Caroline Islands...approaching Palau...about 370 km SE of Koror, Palau [2AM APR 06: 5.5N 137.3E @ 95kph].
MONDAY EARLY MORNING: Passing close to the south of Palau at near-Typhoon strength...about 115 km WSW of Koror, Palau [2AM APR 07: 6.8N 133.6E @ 110kph].
