Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Storm CHABA has entered the eastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsbility (PAR) and is now locally named as "IGME."

This storm is forecast to continue moving Northwestward for  the next 24 hours towards the southern part of the North Philippine Sea, and is likely to become a minimal Typhoon by tomorrow morning (Oct 02). 

Where is Chaba?

As of 11:00 AM PhT today, October 01...0300 GMT.  The center was located over the northeastern part of the Central Philippine Sea (near 16.4N 135.0E), about 1,190km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 1,376 km east of Casiguran, Aurora. 

How strong is it?

Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 85 kph near the center...Gustiness: 110 kph

Where is it heading?

It was moving Northwest @ 19 kph, towards the southern part of the North Philippine Sea.

Forecast Highlights

- Chaba (Igme) is expected to become a Typhoon (TY) by tomorrow morning (Sun, Oct 02).

- Chaba (Igme) remains not a threat to the country.

- Chaba is forecast to just remain along the open waters of the North Philippine Sea through Sunday,  and shall exit the PAR by Monday morning (Oct 03).

- Chaba (Igme) will just pass approximately 800 km from Batanes Group of Islands by tomorrow evening (Oct 02). Its circulation will remain at sea, far away from the Philippine Landmass.
